Automall Helps Drivers Save at the Pump
July 11, 2008
- Soaring
fuel prices have drivers feeling pain at the pump.
But there are ways to save a few dollars, while
also improving the environment. Flexible fuel vehicles
(FFVs) can do just that. They are designed to run
on 85 percent Ethanol and 15 percent gasoline –
a mix commonly known as “E85.”
“Valley Automall dealers have always been
interested saving money at the pump while reducing
noxious emissions,” said Valorie Staley, manager
of Valley Automall. “Today, almost all automotive
makers carry E85 engine vehicles.”
Many of the industry’s leading automotive
manufacturers such as Daimler Chrysler, Ford Motor
Company, and General Motor Company offer E85 powered
vehicles. Models are available in a variety of options
varying from sedans to SUVs to trucks. For a complete
listing of E85 makes and models, visit the website:
www.E85vehicles.com.
Part of E85’s growing popularity stems from
ethanol, which burns cleaner than gasoline and is
a renewable energy supply. It’s produced by
fermenting plant sugars. In the United States, ethanol
is produced from corn and other grain products.
Harvesting crops annually assures a steady supply
of the environmentally-friendly fuel. Domestic producers
have the capacity to produce over 5 billion gallons
of ethanol annually, thereby reducing the reliance
on fossil fuel imports. FFVs have been produced
since 1980.
E85 is considered an alternative fuel under federal
and state laws designed to increase our domestic
energy security and reduce vehicle emissions. It
looks and acts like regular gasoline; however, ethanol
doesn’t contain many of the harmful carcinogens
and other toxins found in gasoline. For a current
list of stations that sell E85, visit the National
Ethanol Vehicle Coalition (NEVC) website at: www.E85Fuel.com.
E85 prices vary by market. But prices are typically
10 percent to 20 percent below regular unleaded
gasoline. Nevada is currently adding E85 stations
throughout the state, with 10 to 12 in current operation
and more on the way.
“E85 is provided by most automakers at little
to no additional cost to the consumer,” said
Staley. “These vehicles often carry the same
warranties as gasoline operated automobiles. Check-out
